Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia. How you doing? I went to the beach, celebrated Christmas, explored aviation history & wondered around the grounds of a lighthouse. I was the official poolside timekeeper to see who could hold their breath underwater the longest. Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you something I didn't know about the Wright Brothers being First in Flight in North Carolina.

VIP at the waterpark.

The event planners.

Picnics on the beach, digging
holes & catching waves,
 crabs & the football.

Sea turtle nest.

Go to the Beach card game. Can you pronounce the name of the
state fish of Hawaii? Humuhumunukunukuapuaa.
Make a snowman crafts &
a snowball fight.

Pirate booty treasure chests.

I've known about the Wright Brothers for as long as I can remember. Seems like it must be one of the 1st things learned in history class being raised up in North Carolina. A few tidbits of information perhaps forgot over the years or maybe never even learned due to not caring about learning much of history anything back then. The Wright Brothers were from Ohio. Dayton Ohio. They did not live in North Carolina. I assumed they lived near the area they did their flying. Nope, they wrote letters to the US Weather Service to find a place that had steady wind, a place with sand or a beach for soft landings & a place where there were few people so they could keep their flying experiments a secret. The 1st flight could have happened from a list of places - Indiana dunes, the coasts of Florida, California, South Carolina & Georgia to name a few.

The original 1903 Wright Flyer is at the National Air &
 Space Museum in Washington DC.

Did you know the Wright Brothers lived
in Ohio & not in North Carolina?

These are some of the things that's been going on in my neck of the woods, how has your week been? Go out & have a wonderful weekend.
The elves came along on vacation too.
They did some fishing & caught a shark.
