Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 15th week of 2023?  Everything turned vibrant green overnight after a good downpour of rain that we got.  Kevin arrived with the rest of our stuff.  My back has been tired & sore from putting away totes of canned food, moving shelves & changing the bedroom furniture around.  We also worked in the garden & planted a thing or 2.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you more, come walk with me...
Kevin brought in a few totes at a time to unpack.
We downsized our belongings & our house size.
Seems we need to do a little more downsizing of
our belongings to fit in the downsized house.

Baby Grand got his 1st 2 teeth.

Daughter's family gussied up for Easter
services at church & then an Easter egg
hunt & dinner with Son-in-Laws parents.

*  Our garden is a little different this year.  There were raised boxed beds already in place, so we'll use those to garden in.  Kevin added a row of boxes & strawberries were ordered.  While the weather was rainy, he burned the 2 brush piles of sticks & leaves that I had created.

53 onion plants were planted.  I scrounged around to see
if I could come up with one more plant to make an even
54, but the plant just was not there.  The bundle was
probably a pack of 50 & perhaps the 3 were extras.

There are thoughts & plans to plant peppers, cucumbers,
tomatoes, squash, carrots & maybe another thing or 2.

The grapes are putting out.
Rose decided she needed a
drink while I was watering the
blackberries.

Kevin transplanted a bunch of
daffodils over by the creek.

The old apple tree has lots of blooms.

A few pears are starting
 to take shape.

Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Hosted by Natalie The Explorer.  Grab a coffee or
your favorite beverage & I'll tell you about our
early
Easter celebration at my mother's house,
walk with me...

I got myself some Easter flowers.
It's hanging strawberry plants.  I've
been setting it out on the porch in the
mornings then bringing it in the house
at night.  We're still having freezing
temperatures during the night
on occasion.

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 14th week of 2023?  I'm noticing more & more green on the undergrowth brush in the woods & the trees are leafing out.  I'm loving the dogwood trees in bloom, though seems it was dogwood winter mid-week (a cold spell when the dogwoods are in bloom.)   I started watching a couple new series on Netflix, Wellmania & Firefly Lane.  What happened to shows like Facts of Life, Different Strokes & Threes Company?  I cooked 3 dozen eggs, Opps, minus the 2 I had cooked for breakfast sometime another.  I dyed the 10 eggs.  The full 2 cartons were deviled.  All the eggs went to the family's annual Easter egg hunt & dinner.  Leftovers were made into egg salad.

The .35 egg dye kit I got at the
thrift store turned out good &
vibrant. The artwork is for fun &
participation, not necessarily
Pinterest worthy.

I got the little Easter plates at the thrift store.  As soon as I saw them, I thought
they would be perfect to serve the deviled eggs on.  The plates looked brand new &
looked like they'd never been used.  Those eggs were the quickest & easiest I think
I've ever peeled.  I used Moma's homemade relish. It was my last jar.  We'll have to
grow the ingredients to make some more... cucumbers, onions, peppers & maybe
a few green mators.

Lots of different varieties of
delicious food was cooked for a
  family dinner feast.  I love
Moma's green beans.

Easter eggs were hidden for an egg hunt.

It was such a beautiful day to eat outside.
There was conversation here about the
 upcoming track meet.

There was a decorated egg contest.  Which
one would you have chosen for the most
creative? Could you tell that mine
was a blooming cactus?

The competitive Easter egg hunt was on!

Do you see the hidden egg?

Happy Easter!

Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 13th week of 2023?  I got the blackberry bushes & grape vines planted that Kevin had ordered, I did some yard mowing & it was opening day for rec league youth baseball.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you more, come walk with me...

Grand helped work in the garden.  She
wanted to drive the tractor & wanted
to work more when we were all done.
Maybe gardening is her calling, she
tends to want to quit everything else she
has tired such as dance & cheerleading.

The neighbor's goats helping to mow the
grass. We'll be adding on to the garden as
well as extending the fence around the garden.

Jupiter & Mars were 2 of the 3
varieties of grapes that were planted.

*  The opening ceremony of the rec league youth baseball was delayed an hour due to the overnight rain.  Then it was delayed 2 hours.  The bouncy houses that were expected to be there, wasn't there.  We never heard the reason there was no bouncy houses, we thought it might have been because of the standing water in the fields.

Grand got a good hit.  Yay!  This
Nana was so proud, along with
all the other family that was there.
There were food trucks. We got pulled
pork sandwiches & kettle corn for lunch
while waiting for Grand's game time.  There
were snow cones later in the day.

Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 12th week of 2023?   The grass is getting more vibrant green with each passing day, this week was all about getting the yard ready to mow.  The blackberry bushes & grape vines Kevin ordered arrived.  I put the plants in the refrigerator where the temperature was 42 degrees to keep them dormant as suggested in the instructions.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you a little more about how the yard cleanup is going, come walk with me...

Nana Grandjoy Camp Run-A-Muk - Grands
helped rake leaves & pickup sticks, there is 2
brush piles going. Grands put together a can
organizer for the pantry & helped carry in a
band saw that was delivered.

Work in progress, stalks & sticks still need to be
picked up around these hostas.

We went into town for supper, there
were 4 minutes to do a little thrifting
before the shop closed.

Grands making labels for storage
baskets didn't turn out as
originally planned.

Rose enjoyed joining the Grands for a wiffle ball game or 2, this area looks
stick free & ready to mow when the time comes, I made sure the rocks
being used as bases were put back along the creek where they came from.

The neighbor came to say hello, we call
him Buckhorn for now.

Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 11th week of 2023? Sister & I stayed with the Grands while their parents went on an extended weekend getaway.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you about a few things that went on while I was at Daughter's house, come walk with me...

Me & Sister cooked chicken for a Family Sunday
Dinner. There was shake & bake bbq, ranch
dressing marinated & strips. Before night fall,
all the leftover chicken had disappeared along
with Moma's banana pudding.

There was a nice day for a walk but there
were no flowers to pick.
I made 2 pans of these breakfast rollups.

Grands putting things away, helping
 clean house for Sunday Dinner.
"What is this in my shoe?"

Grands & Friend worked 2 days
building this fort, it was a little
too cold & rainy to have the
overnight campout they
had planned.

An apple seed was planted.

Happenings on the Homestead in the Appalachian Mountains

Weekend Coffee Share

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from Georgia.  How you doing this 10th week of 2023?  I got my car unloaded & moved into our new homestead.  I did a little cleaning & organizing each day.  I splurged & ordered curtains for the bedroom from Black Forest Decor.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you about a couple of activities I did this week in between learning the routines at work & finding places to put stuff in the house, come walk with me...

This will be a cute little flower bed
when the sticks are picked up &
flowers are growing.

1st time bowler.
*  Sister & I took Grand bowling for a birthday outing.  Grand was surprised when her friend joined us to bowl.  One game of bowling was all the littles could endure.  There were snacks & arcade games too.

*  I went to Nephew's baseball game. The field was located on my way home from work.  I left the game after several innings. I got a little miserably cold & there were several drops of rain, so I gave it up.  In the end, Nephew's team lost by 1 point.  The score was 12 to 11.

1st game of the season.

Happenings on the Homestead

Weekend Coffee Share

I'm the surprise in disguise
wearing my new thrift store
hat.  Also, I was surprised
with a Welcome Back
dinner party.

Hello there Adventurous Friends & Family, greetings from North Carolina.  How you doing this 9th week of 2023?  I had extra cups of coffee with Moma in the mornings, Sister made some delicious southern style sweet tea for the afternoons.  I worked in Moma's yard with Sister & the 3 of us had a girl's day out thrifting.  I emailed, completed online applications & made phone calls to get the utilities, insurance & such changed into Kevin & my names in preparation for move in day at our new homestead.  I was involved in several surprises & started my new job.  Grab a coffee or your favorite beverage & I'll tell you what the surprises were, come walk with me...

SURPRISE!  Nana is here! (No, it's not a "We're having
another baby" announcement.)  The Grands didn't know
Nana & Pa were moving.  It was hard keeping it a secret.

Grand, Sister, Nephew, Me
SURPRISE!  Happy 18th birthday to Great Nephew Conner. There was pizza,
bowling & arcade games.  Conner knew he was going bowling for his
birthday, but he didn't know there was going to be lots of other family,
friends & several of his teachers to help him celebrate.  His Moma
commented, "Hands down Conner’s best party!
You only turn 18 once 💙💣⭐️"

SURPRISE! Look what I found
way in the back in the refrigerator.
Cheesecake.  Moma said I
could have it.  (Hehe)

SURPRISE!  I discovered grape hyacinth
in bloom.  I noticed them while taking
Rose on a walk around in the yard.
Moma said she had seen them earlier
in the day.
